Gold Electroplating Samples

Gold chloride solutions can be easily plated out at roughly 1 - 2 amps at 6 to 12volts per square foot of solution, depending on the strength of the solution and other factors, using a stainless steel or a conductive wet-brush as an anode and an (metallic or bronze dust covered) object to be plated as a cathode (for surface plating). Electrodeposition is a form of gold refining for pure layers of gold. Some cathodes made of carbon rods are used as collectors in electrolytic refining to deplete tanks of gold solutions, and can built up to be nodules of high purity gold weighing several pounds. Some collector cathodes of copper mesh or steel wool collect the gold and then the cathode is soaked in an acidic solution to remove the copper or steel.
